21st April 2002 … Can it happen again ?

Today is a special to remember for French people. Eight years it was the first round of the presidential election in France, eight years ago the far right wing won against the left wing, eight years ago left wing people had to decide to vote against themselves for the right wing to save the Republic, eight years ago it was a politic earthquake in France, 8 years ago I saw my country with different eyes for ever…

Second round

Second round

Will we forget it ?

Lionel Jospin : Left wing leader

Lionel Jospin : Left wing leader

No one is going to forget what happened that day. I remember perfectly that for the first time in my life I decided to don’t watch the TV for the first results because I was sure about them. The second round would have been left against right, Lionel Jospin vs Jacques Chirac. So I went to the cinema, ready to come back to watch the debates. When I went out of the cinema, I had a lot of messages on my voicemail. I listened, the first one and I thought it was a joke, and the second one, and the one after… The left wing lost, and the far right will be in the second round vs the the right. Like a lot of people, I cried and ran closed to Bastille. I went back home, called my friends, opened the TV and I was without words. It was just impossible to conceive it and it was the reality.

After few minutes, the left candidate spoke and said he quit because obviously he failed. It was the second horrific news of the day. But from that moment, French people decided to react not in voting for the right but in voting against the far right. Everybody were concerned, deeply concerned… And for me at that time, I thought now it’s done it can’t happen again… And maybe I was wrong.

In 2012 : The same scenario ?

Daniel Cohn-Bendit

Daniel Cohn-Bendit

Few days ago, Daniel Cohn Bendit, a politician from the green wing explained a theory that was very interesting, possibly true and very scary. At the moment, Nicolas Sarkozy is in a really bad position in all the surveys, in the French hearts. He is dictatorial amd quite hated, even in his own party. In the right wing, people have become to change their views about him and 2 former prime ministers decided to create two different new parties. If in 2 years, Sarkozy is still hated like now, French people who vote right are going to spread their votes in the different little parties. And it could happen one thing, at the first round, the right is going to lose and it will be a second round left vs far right.

I could say I will be happy because if it would happen, the left will win in France. But no, I wont be happy because again and even worst for the second time the far right will win the first round in the country I love, the country I’m proud of for the human rights, the social rules, the culture…

Eight years ago, the 21st April 2002, something change in each French heart, eight years ago we felt all the same sadness and shame, eight years ago we thought we won’t let it happen again…

Foreign accent syndrom…

I read an article today in Le Figaro that make me laugh a lot, even if it’s not funny for those who get the “foreign accent syndrom”… But I’m cynical, so I laugh… It seems to be a very english problem… Sorry my little Rosbif !!!

A real sickness

This article tells the story of an English woman who after a big headache changed accent when she speaks… Ok, we are not the 1st of April, I checked the date of the article is from today. And she is talking now with a chinese accent. Not a lie I swear. She’s from Plymouth (South East of England). She said it was quite funny at the beginning but not anymore. Her friends don’t recognize her at the phone… No one knows how to cure that, it exists around cases around the world, so I don’t know any scientist who are going to work on the case for 10 people… And 10 people who can make laugh all their relatives and friends… Anyway, she is following a language therapy to help… Good luck my dear Rosbif from Plymouth… I’m wondering if it’s better for her to get a Chinese accent or could have been better a French one ????

Sorry but I can’t resist

General election: everybody in the starting blocks

Today is the official day of the launch of the campaign. This morning Gordon Brown went to see the Queen to ask the dissolution of the parliament. Accepted as usual… So in one month, the 6th of May, UK people will vote for a new assembly and de facto a new government. How the French newspapers see that and how UK ones see it ???

In France…

General Election

General Election

Le Monde explained the battle between Labour and Tories will be harder than expected. But they also said it will be the first time for Gordon Brown he will be confronted to a democratic vote. Since 3 years, he is Prime Minister without asking UK people if they really want him… No choice for them, Tony Blair left so Gordon Brown took his place. So it will be a personal battle for him and a battle for his party too. If he will win… It’s the best victory ever…

Liberation compares quickly the two last speeches of Cameron and Brown. Brown said today to make the good decision like his party has done the last 18 months. And Cameron behave as usual as a modern man in a very old fashion conservative party and said yesterday he will fight for ignored people : young, old, rich, poor, black, white, homosexual, heterosexual…” Who believe him ?

In Le Figaro, not much apart the facts just the facts… A little sentence is in the article to precise that those elections will be most battled since almost 20 years…

In the UK…

In the first page of the BBC, you can find a timetable… Now it’s a race against the watch… In one month, they have to show and prove everything. For the moment the Tories should win, the last surveys show that… But the gap beteween Labour and Tories is less important than few months ago…. Let’s see how will be this last round between Cameron and Brown… Loyal ? Bullshits ? Scandals ?

In The Guardian, the first page is linked to the Andrew Sparrow blog Elections live… In that blog everybody will follow the last news regarding the campaign… the last words…

“How Brown could still be laughing all the way back to Downing Street?”  wrote The Independant. Of course, surveys gave him a looser. So why? In this article, some experts demonstrates the reason Brown was a good Prime Minister, what he achieved, solved, and what the Labour should do to win the elections.

Gordon Brown has asked for the French nationality

What a news!!! Two things pushed him to come in France and ask for the French nationality. The recent victory of the socialists and the fact he likes unpasterised cheeses. Gordon you are welcome. The big deal now … Will he be accepted as a French person… Could be easier because he is Scottish, but he needs to pass the Sarkozy test … Means: Wear a Rolex in any circumstances (easy), wear a pair of Ray Ban aviator even when it rains (less easy), appear at least twice a month in Paris-Match with his wife (mmmmh), have at least 2 affairs (hard), lie (hard), run every day and cycle once a week with Michel Drucker…. Ok I don’t know Gordon if you can be French honestly, stay where you are it could be a better place….

No no Gordon not having an affair with Carla Bruni

No no Gordon not having an affair with Carla Bruni

Of course it’s April Fools’ Day today …. So I’m doing like Sarkozy is often doing… Lying…

Olympics: A new fun Eiffel tower in London… but little

And the winner is Anish Kapoor. The architect has been chosen today to build the 115m tall piece, named the ArcelorMittal Orbit. It will be located in the Olympic Park.  22m higher than the Statue of Liberty but nothing to compare to the Eiffel Tower apart the material (317m)…

And the corruption lasts in the UK

Who says in Italy people are corrupted ? In the UK, it’s a bit more than one year now that scandal of corruption amongst the MP family appears regularly… The last one is this one :

Well done guys… Keep on going like this and Bristish will be disgusted by politics. I mean more, because they are already… But next election no one is going to vote… And who is going to win ????

France Elections: Socialist victory

Isn’t it pretty all in pink??? So, the second and last round of the regional elections in France just confirm the first one. The victory of the left wing, and of course the massive defeat of the right wing of Sarkozy. Will he admit it ??? Who knows. This week he will change the government a bit. To be honest, he should change it massively, and for once stay at his position, president and not omnipotent… Gordon, I wish you the same success soon…
