mydavidcameron.com: What do you think about mynicolassarkozy.com ?

We talk a lot about that website in the UK since few weeks. Have a look on the site here. Below some screengrabs to give you a little flavour…

And now do you think it can happen in France ? I mean as famous as this one, with the same kind of humour ? I’m not sure anymore unfortunately. Anyway I have checked and it couldn’t be mynicolassarkozy.com because the domain is already bought… But by whom ???? UMP, of course…

Kirpan might be allowed in public places in the UK

When France wants to ban full veil in public places and transports, an Asian judge wants UK allows Sikhs to wear their Kirpans.

What is a Kirpan ?

Small Kirpan

Small Kirpan

It’s a ceremonial dagger. Not really the same than a veil. The thing is, Kirpans are not visible when you wear them. So the point is, should you allow that because you are not doing prozelytism ?

Means because you are from a religion you can wear white weapon while for the rest of the society is forbidden ?

A bit weird in a French point of view ?

NHS vs Securite sociale

When I went in England, my big fear was English people…. No I’m joking. To be serious, it was the health system. So after a bit more than three years, now I can tell you I was right to be scared.

NHS

NHS

How NHS works ?

So for French people who doesn’t know NHS is the equivalent of our “securite sociale”. You need to register, and it’s very quick. You receive your card and it means you can go to hospital and GP for free. To have a GP you need to check if one in the area you live can take more patients. If yes, well done you suppose to be fully covered.

At the first sight, you can think it’s much better than in France because you don’t have to pay anything not even our 20 euros (maybe more now). You take an appointment, you go, you leave… That’s it. The same for hospitals, you go, you leave… Amazing.

But it’s not the reality … I test it for you

Case study

Last week, for some reason, I needed to go to the emergency. So I arrived there and everything was quite fine at the beginning… Like in France, you register at the reception. But after everything change. A nurse called me and asked me what I had. After a description of the symptoms, she said to me, ok fine, wait and a doctor is going to call you. So I wait, and the choice to take a patient was completely random. It was not in term of how long you wait, or are you more in pain, or is it serious or not??? Not at all, completely random. So after 3 hours, a doctor called me. But the thing is was not a real doctor, not a nurse, maybe a kind of student. He asked me again my symptoms. And after, 5 minutes he decided it could better if he checked by himself… I was totally agreed… So he said to me, I’m not sure but it seems to be that… I said but no, I’m not a doctor and I can tell you it’s not. And he said, yes, yes because I can’t see what else can it be… At that point I was like ok bye and thanks.

As you can imagine, he didn’t solve my problem. So the day after, still in pain, I checked if they have special emergency for my problem. YES… So I went. I was like… Amazing this time, I’m going to see specialists.

When I arrived, I talked to a nurse. She told me. We can’t do anything for here. So I asked, am I wrong or you work for a department that treat what I have ? She answered yes but no… Ok … I was in twilight zone. So I beg her to find someone to at least have a look to know if it was serious or not.

Finally nicely, she checked me. And of course, the diagnostic was different from the day before. She asked also three people to come and check. Fair enough people have to learn… But what a mess…

So difference between the french system

Carte vitale

Carte vitale

In France, you go in an hospital and you see a real doctor and they can tell you you straight away what you have. You pay but you are covered by your national insurance and they gave you back the money. And if they don’t know they keep you for more exams. They will never tell you I’ m not sure go back home. They will never send a nurse to make a diagnostic. So if it’s serious you are in good hands…

But a part for that I have to say people in NHS are very kind and polite. Like English people in general, they are very respectful.

Do you have any experience like this ???

Blair is explaining the UK engagement in Iraq… How hypocrisy continues!!!

It’s Tony Blair turn today to explain why he decided to engage british troups in Iraq. He doesn’t seem very 100% comfortable in front the Iraq inquiry but stays quite calm, as a British. But I have the clear impression that being there or not doesn’t change anything. He just defends himself, stays in his position. So what the fuck is he doing there???

Could French have change their mind

Mister Blair thought they could have. I’m quite surprised from an International diplomat and specialist. If you just know a little how French are, hearing Jacques Chirac and Dominique de Villepin you should know, they would have stay in their statements. This was a NO and a sure NO.

He also employ a word doesn’t exist in politics “genuine”. Mr Blair says he “genuinely hoped” the UN path would work. Of course you don’t genuinely think Mister Blair and if you really thought genuinely, it’s a bit scary in that kind of circompstances. You had to decide to engage your country and your people in a fucking war…

Saddam a threat

Mister Blair said for him Saddam remained a threat. I would like to know why. Because he didn’t explain. How can Saddam Hussein remain a threat for UK and UK security when you don’t have any proof of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq…

For the moment, but the inquiry is not finished, I just think Blair not explained anything, defends himself and continues to lie. It’s maybe taking the piss out UK people and families who lost a child, a husband, a nephew, a grandchild in the war….

Full veil will be ban in France…

Everyone has an opinion about the full veil. Mine is quite clear : I think is a radical and degrading for women, but I’m against a law that bans to wear it. As a feminist and republican, I feel sorry for women who wear it. But I have a west european point of view. Do you know a republican country that ban to wear anything ??? Not me, France will be the first and in my opinion, that interdiction will produce even more radicalism.

The law project

For the moment it’s just a project, but many surveys prove that French people agree with that project. So because the right wing has got the majority to vote the law, obviously it will pass. Maybe I’m wrong but I think France will be the only republican country that will forbid a way to wear clothes. Because it’s that… People don’t have the right to put what they want… It exists already a law that forbids to wear the niqab at school but this is completely different. In France, school is republican and laic. You can’t show any religious signs. So I understand… But this project to ban the burqa, it’s absolutely anti republican for me. Because they want to forbid it even in the public transports…. Tell me what the matter…

What could be the solution ?

The solution for me is quite simple: Education. It’s the role of the French public education to let understand the burqa it’s not religious, it’s not an obligation, it’s not a duty. In France, it’s a free country and you are allowed to wear whatever. Education should teach to children they can make personal choices and think by themselves, it doesn’t mean they can’t be religious.

How UK will see France now ?

I’m curious to know now, what will be the impact of such a law. How UK people will see French people. In London is more common to see women wear burqa. It’s not a republic true, our fundamental values are based on a different culture, but UK is a free country as well, with a west european culture. In the UK, a lot of people come from different religions, and no one forbid anything…. The BBC asks the question should UK adopt the same law ???

Feminist against a feminist law

I consider myself as a feminist, but I was very surprised to read today that a law project will be proposed this afternoon in front of the French deputees to oblige company to hire more women. We are in 2010 now and we have to do that. That’s ashamed and means women still have less rights than men.

Figures

Apparently France, country of Human rights (in French if we translate it’s Men rights….), we are behind most of European countries in term of women at the head of big companies. Between 9 and 10%  of women are in governing board of big companies. Far behind Norway (41%),  Sweden (27%) and Finland (20%).

So a law…

Regarding those figures, they want to propose a law that imposes in 6 years a quota of 40% of women in governing board of the companies that are in the stock exchange. I feel sorry for that. I was thinking there were no difference in term of work anymore. But I disagree to make a law for that. I think in proving our power it needs to be done. I feel shit as a woman my country needs to do something for me to impose my skills. I’m sorry it happens in 2010, I’m sorry for all people who are still considered as a minority.

But Whokares!!!!

For or against this law ?

Thierry Henry: So what… all this noise for nothing

Maybe it’s even more unfair today for Ireland and for the UK in general. Why Thierry Henry went in front of the Fifa commission ? Just to say nothing more and the Fifa to answer: ‘everthing is fine Mister Henry we don’t have any proof’… Taking the piss …

11th of November … Should be a bank holiday ?

In the UK, Remembrance day should be off work for you ?

Especially today the 11th of November I’m wondering if this day should be a bank holiday. In France, it is. But a part, old people who go to put flowers to commemorate the soldiers who fought and died during the WW1, no one is really commemorate anything. But maybe in the UK it should be more important nowadays, because UK soldiers are in Afghanistan and Iraq, a lot of people are concerned. Three years I’m living in the UK and I see more and more people wearing the poppy. It really means they are concerned. And certainly concerned even more for the present UK soldiers …. So why not let a chance for this country that seems want to remember to remember it properly and put that day off ???
