A little difference no ?

Looking at the news this morning the commemoration of UK people who served in Iraq, I saw all the assembly in St Paul Cathedral sang the british national anthem. And two reflexions came out of me. First it’s weird for a French person to hear a national anthem in a church. In France, state and relgion are absolutely separated. But there is another thing quite weird. Who more than our political or royal represents have to sing the national anthem ? By definition, they represent our country and our pride. But there is one country where ITS most important representant can’t sing it, more that can’t, musn’t sing it… And it’s the UK. Poor woman, the Queen MUSN’T sing the “God save the Queen”. How possible ? Otherwise, it will be arrogant and pretentious, to ask herself God to save her. And arrogancy is reserved to French people… So what can she do ? I’m delighted to imagine her in her shower singing alone the UK national anthem….

French people know Valery Giscard d’Estaing, our former president, and also writer. And today I’m gonna talk about him as a writer. He will publish a novel quite strange and based on real facts… But where is the reality and where is the fantasy ??? His book is a love story between an English Princess and a French president during the 80s…. Quite strange, no ?

Even if this “love story” remembers a lot “La Princesse de Clèves” of Madame de Lafayette, it remembers a lot the life of Giscard and Diana as well. In the book, they both met in a dinner after a G7. “Baise main”, french fashion, and exchange of look… and hop!!! C’est parti…. A love story has begun, with secret RDV in a English castles or French presidential houses. Lyrism and romantism guaranteed… But the question is : Is it based on real facts? VGE and Diana had had a love story or is it pure imagination?

Very difficult for me to believe but… who knows ?

Ok let’s think as a woman… Who really wants to be Giscard d’Estaing ? I mean physically. Diana was already with Charles so fuck at least, take an handsome lover. And the history showed us after Charles she had quite good taste in term of men. So, VGE , pfff…. I have big doubt. But after all, the french charm can operate. French politicians seems very cultivate and romantic… VGE is a writer, as a passion for literature…. As well, Dominique de Villepin writes poems, Mitterrand was an intellectual and Pompidou an art collector. So after all why not be attracted by this cultivate French touch.

But anyway, even if I try to believe in that story to all myself, sometimes goes wrong ….

Queen Mum is the most loveable person by the UK people in the Royal Family. Nice, smily, satirical and alcoholic (like a Scottish woman)… In september, a book from discussions she had with the writer will be released… Revelations ???

Queen Mum was very special as a member of the Royal Family. All the UK people even those who don’t care about the Royal family loved her. Because she used to have a strong personality, satirical, nice and sometimes very bitchy. Diana used to hate her and it was reciproc. She was loved first for her loyalty. During the Second World War, she decided to stay in the UK against her councellors. She said “I’m not going without my children, I’m not going without my husband, I’m my husband wouldn’t his country”. She also too learnt how to use a gun in case someone sent by Hitler came in her room to try to kill her…

The Granny of UK people

She’ also considerated like THE Granny of a whole nation. She was the first one to be a bit more closer to the people, smily and with a very great humour. She was a real UK person… She used to drink quite a lot, Dubonnet and gin… And she was famous to stay sober after a lot of drinks… But what else ??? Maybe in that book UK people will discover another side of her personnality.

Elizabeth II knows what is good… That’s why she enjoys French drinks. I discover today thanks to an article in the BBC website that’s her favourite drink is… Dubonnet. Apparently, The Queen drinks a glass of Dubonnet with gin every day before lunch. I was very surprised because for me Dubonnet doesn’t exsit anymore. I remember to have seen some bottles when I was very young in shops, and also some adverts… But not anymore…

What is really ?

I never tried it. So I looked in wikipedia and this is : a wine-based aperitif. It is based on wine and herbs, with fermentation being stopped by the addition of alcohol.
