<fb:share-button href="http://whokares.net/2010/01/full-veil-will-be-ban-in-france/" type="box_count"></fb:share-button>
Everyone has an opinion about the full veil. Mine is quite clear : I think is a radical and degrading for women, but I’m against a law that bans to wear it. As a feminist and republican, I feel sorry for women who wear it. But I have a west european point of view. Do you know a republican country that ban to wear anything ??? Not me, France will be the first and in my opinion, that interdiction will produce even more radicalism.

Women in Burqa

The law project

For the moment it’s just a project, but many surveys prove that French people agree with that project. So because the right wing has got the majority to vote the law, obviously it will pass. Maybe I’m wrong but I think France will be the only republican country that will forbid a way to wear clothes. Because it’s that… People don’t have the right to put what they want… It exists already a law that forbids to wear the niqab at school but this is completely different. In France, school is republican and laic. You can’t show any religious signs. So I understand… But this project to ban the burqa, it’s absolutely anti republican for me. Because they want to forbid it even in the public transports…. Tell me what the matter…

What could be the solution ?

The solution for me is quite simple: Education. It’s the role of the French public education to let understand the burqa it’s not religious, it’s not an obligation, it’s not a duty. In France, it’s a free country and you are allowed to wear whatever. Education should teach to children they can make personal choices and think by themselves, it doesn’t mean they can’t be religious.

How UK will see France now ?

I’m curious to know now, what will be the impact of such a law. How UK people will see French people. In London is more common to see women wear burqa. It’s not a republic true, our fundamental values are based on a different culture, but UK is a free country as well, with a west european culture. In the UK, a lot of people come from different religions, and no one forbid anything…. The BBC asks the question should UK adopt the same law ???

Do you Kare ?
