The Burqa and the Law

Since one week in France, a big political debate turns around the Burqa. The difference between France and the UK is France is a laïc country but very very laic, and we don’t allow in administration and school religious signs. In the UK, it’s not a problem. The debate turn around : do we have to create a law that forbids the burqa or do we need to educate more and help people who wears them ?

The Burqa in the UK

I don’t want to say the burqa is quite common in the UK because it’s not true. But there are more women who wear it than in France. It’s not a problem to cross a woman in burqa in the streets of London. In Paris, I saw one or twice, women with it and they were not French. Just the veil is forbidden in France in school and administration. In the UK, you see a lot of women at the post office or bus driver with it. It’s not a laic country as France is. Laicity is not the fundment of the UK law and politic.

The Burqa in France

A lot of politics have given their opinion about the burqa. All of them are against but all of them don’t want to forbid it through a law. Most of them want to discuss and give information to the women who wear it. Explaining they don’t have to do that if they don’t want because in France, it’s a free country and laic above all. If a law is voted, it could be a big mess because the muslim community could take it like against them. Which is not at all the purpose. Because the burqa is very extrem behaviour and in France, we still see just few of them.

In addition an article published in the mail online the 24th of june. It’s the point of view of a British muslim woman.
